Confirmation & 1st Communion Registration
The traditional order of receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion is now be the norm in the Diocese of Manchester. For centuries in the Catholic Church, people received Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion at the same time, whether they were babies or adults. The Sacraments over time have been separated from one another for a variety of reasons, including the Protestant-influenced idea that Confirmation was something like an “adult choice” to “make a full commitment” to the Church. The reception of Confirmation also became like a carrot on a stick to keep teenagers going to religion classes. But the true Catholic understanding of Confirmation is that it is a powerful source of grace which is needed before a child enters the difficult teen years. This is what Bishop Libasci is restoring in all parishes of the Diocese.
Class to prepare our children to receive Confirmation and First Communion will be held Wednesdays, 7 until 7:45 p.m. October 30 through December 18th, 2019 (no class on November 27, the eve of Thanksgiving). Father Liebert will teach this class in the Church basement. Children of registered and active parishioners who are currently in third grade and any older children who have not yet been Confirmed need to register for this class by Monday, October 28th
